V62 form
You need to fill a V62 form when you want to order a new logbook (also known as V5C or a vehicle registration certificate). A V5C is an important document that all car owners should have as it records your car's history. Learn more about the V5C (logbook).
When you buy a new car, the dealer registers the car under your name and you receive a logbook as proof. You usually get a logbook within four weeks of buying the car, but you can register the car on your own using the V62 form if don’t get your logbook within this time period. You can also use the V62 form to get a new logbook if you lose your original (or it gets destroyed, damaged or stolen).
Where can I get a V62 form from?
You can get a free V62 form online from the gov.uk government website. Simply state the reason for applying for a logbook (e.g. I’ve lost my old one) and enter your car’s registration number, VIN (chassis) number and your registered postcode.
You can also download and print a V62 form from gov.uk or get a V62 form from your local Post Office. Once you’ve got the V62 form and filled it, you’ll have to post it to DVLA Vehicle Customer Services.
How much does a V62 form cost?
If you’ve bought a new or used car and you haven’t received a logbook, you can apply to get the document for free by filling in the V62 and informing the DVLA.
If you’re applying for a logbook because you’ve lost or damaged it, you’ll need to pay £25 to get a replacement logbook. If you’re applying online, you’ll need to pay by a debit or credit card. If you apply through post, you’ll need to send a cheque or make a postal order. If you’ve bought a new car and you haven’t received your logbook within four weeks, you get a two-week window to fill in the V62 and order a logbook. If you don’t inform the DVLA within six weeks, you’ll have to pay £25. For used cars, you’ll need your green ‘new keeper slip’. To get the logbook for free, you’ll have to attach this slip with your V62 form and send it to the DVLA.
Where should I send the V62 form?
If you’ve downloaded the V62 form or got it from the Post Office, you’ll have to post the form to the DVLA Vehicle Customer Services at:

How long does it take to replace a logbook?
If you’ve lost your current logbook and you’re ordering a replacement, you should receive a new logbook within two weeks of sending your V62 form as you’re already registered as the keeper of the car with the DVLA.
It can take longer – up to four weeks - to process the V62 if you’ve just bought the car and the DVLA hasn’t registered you as the keeper of the car yetIn some rare cases, it may take longer to get your logbook, in which case you should contact the DVLA.
How do I fill out a V62 form?
Once you’ve got the V62 form, you’ll have to fill in details related to your vehicle and send it to the DVLA.
