How to save money with GasBuddy? ›

GasBuddy gathers its gas price information almost exclusively from crowdsourced user submissions.

Upside has greater cashback potential than GasBuddy. Both apps offer similar gas deals at the pumps, but Upside offers a broader range of other deals. Upside offers cash back at over 50,000 restaurants, grocery markets, and supermarkets while GasBuddy offers cash back at only a couple dozen national chains.

Why we don't recommend GasBuddy. At a glance, the GasBuddy app is meant to save you money on gas, and it offers you a chance to earn points based on other purchases for more gas. But like most savings programs, GasBuddy's program appears to slurp up plenty of data about you.

Why are gas prices going up? Gas prices tend to rise during the warmer months of the year because of higher demand and a switch to summer-blend gasoline. The direction of crude oil prices and other factors also can contribute to higher prices at the pump.

Gas stations are in fact legally allowed to charge a customer extra if they choose to use a credit card to purchase gas. This is because the gas station owners pay an interchange fee to the payment networks. They often pass this fee on to the consumer to recoup that additional cost.

Transactions are processed as ACH transactions, which require a link to your checking account. We use this method because of the lower processing cost, which allows us to pass along greater savings to you!

How do you make money with GasBuddy? ›

Every purchase you make earns you a percentage of the purchase price in GasBack Rewards. Shop or dine in-person/in-store from partner restaurants and retailers after you link a credit or debit card to your profile in the GasBuddy app.

Pay with GasBuddy offers major fuel savings on every gallon of gas you pump. When you join Pay with GasBuddy for free you will save up to 25¢ per gallon on every fill-up. Keep an eye out for additional seasonal and station-specific promotions throughout the year to save even more at the pump.

GasBack^® is defined as a reward credit that members earn based on their purchases made on their Card. GasBack^® credit accumulates into a rewards account (the “GasBack Account”) for the Program member to redeem as a statement credit when they use their GasBuddy^™ Mastercard^® Credit Card at the pump.

If your GasBuddy account shows you have an available GasBack Rewards balance, the amount will be automatically redeemed when you make a fuel purchase at the pump using the card.
