Parent and Child Swim

Parent and Child 1
Age6to 24 months
Children will work on getting wet with toys and kicking, blowing bubbles, underwater exploration, floating, gliding and leg action on front and back. Parent/adult MUST accompany children in the water during this class. Children who are not potty trained must wear a waterproof swim diaper covered by a swim suit.

Parent and Child 2
Age 2-3
Children will work on ways to enter and exit the pool, going under water, opening eyes and retrieving objects, bobbing, floating and gliding, and combined leg and arm action on front and back. Parent/adult MUST accompany children in the water during this class. Children who are not potty trained must wear a waterproof swim diaper covered by a swim suit.

Preschool Swim

Age 3-4

Preschool 1

Skills include: entering and exiting water, blowing bubbles, going under water, opening eyes and retrieving submerged objects, front and back floats and glides, rolling over, treading with arm and hand actions, and combined arm and leg actions on front and back, 2 body lengths.

Preschool 2

Skills include: bobbing, opening eyes under water and retrieving objects, front and back floats and glides, rolling over, treading using arm and leg actions, finning and combined arm and leg actions on front and back, 3 body lengths.

Preschool 3

Skills include: jumping in, holding breath, front, back, jellyfish and tuck floats, changing direction while swimming, treading, fining, and combined arm and leg actions on front and back, 5 body lengths.​​​​​​

Levels 1-6B

Children must be at least five years old to enter Levels 1-6B.

LEVEL1: Introduction to Water Skills

Students will be introduced to water skills and learn to move comfortably through the water; work on entering and exiting water, blowing bubbles, bobbing, opening eyes underwater and retrieving objects, front and back floats and glides, rolling over, treading with arm and hand actions, and combined leg and arm actions on front and back; exit skills.

LEVEL 2: Fundamental Aquatic Skills

Students will learn to safely enter chest-deep water, work on holding breath, bobbing, opening eyes underwater and retrieving objects, front, back, jellyfish and tuck floats, changing direction while swimming, treading with arm and leg actions, fining, and combined arm and leg actions on front and back, five body lengths; exit skills.

LEVEL 3: Stroke Development

Students will learn to enter water by jumping and diving from the side in a sitting and kneeling position, bobbing to safety, survival and back floats, treading water, front glide with flutter and dolphin kicks, front crawl and elementary backstroke 15 yards, breaststroke and scissors kick; exit skills.

LEVEL 4: Stroke Improvement

Students will learn to dive (if depth permits) from compact or stride position; swim underwater, feet-first surface dive, survival swimming, front crawl and elementary backstroke 25 yards, back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly 15 yards, back glide with flutter and dolphin kicks, treading water for two minutes and front and back crawl open turns; exit skills.

LEVEL 5: Stroke Refinement

Students will learn tuck and pike surface dives, front and back flip turns, treading water for five minutes, front crawl and elementary backstroke 50 yards, back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly 25 yards, standard scull for 30 seconds, exit skills.

LEVEL 6A: Skill Proficiency

Students will learn to swim front and back crawl 100 yards; breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke and butterfly 50 yards; turns to all strokes; exit skills. 6A: Personal Water Safety Students will work on front crawl and elementary backstroke 100 yards, back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly 50 yards, survival and back floats for five minutes, survival swimming 10 minutes, treading water, surface dives, turns for all strokes, surface dives, exit skills.

Level 6B: Fitness Swimmer

This course is designed for those swimmers who are interested in swimming to stay fit. Students will work on front crawl and elementary backstroke 100 yards, back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly 50 yards, circle swimming, using a pace clock, using pull buoys, fins and paddles while swimming, principles of setting up an exercise program, aquatic exercise and turns for all strokes. (Prerequisite: Level 6A)

Individualized Instruction

One-to-one lessons are custom-fit to your swimming ability, while advancing your swimming skills according to American Red Cross specifications. Semi-Individualized lessons are available for two students at the same swim level and age. Registration and payment must be received at the same time.

Adult Swim

Lap Swim

For lap swimmers of every level. This is great exercise with very low impact. Swim at your own pace. It's a fun way to increase endurance, lose weight, tone up and become stress free! Great for cross-trainers or just the "kickers". Bring your neighbors, family and co-workers! Must be able to swim 50 yards continuously.

​​​​​​Individualized Swim Lessons

If you're looking for an in-depth, personalized swim class, our one-to-one lessons will provide individualized attention to your specific needs. The class will be custom-fit to your swimming level/ability. Instructors provide private instruction, advancing student's swimming skills according to American Red Cross swim specifications. 30-minute classes are ideal for tri-athletes in training, and new, or out-of-practice adult swimmers.

Aqua Exercise

Water aerobics is beneficial for many reasons. First, it's low-impact. Second, it's an activity that focuses on range of motion and strength building. Third, it's cardiovascular exercise that can assist with weight control. No swimming skills necessary, pool depth does not exceed 5 feet.

Water Safety Aide

Age 13+

Learn the objectives, duties and responsibilities of an aide and the skills to teach preschool swim and levels 1-6. Learn stroke techniques, safety skills and build endurance and then shadow a water safety instructor. This is a hands-on experience. Upon completion you'll be able to teach all the skills at the level you are shadowing, fill out worksheets, give corrective and positive feedback and organize lesson plans in a progressive manner.

​​​​​Junior Lifeguard

Age 12+

This course will prepare you to take the American Red Cross Lifeguard class when you turn 15.

Front crawl, breast stroke, and side stroke will be strengthened. Students practice swimming 300 yards continuously, retrieving a 10 pound brick from deep water, treading water for 2 minutes without hands, entering the water with the rescue tube, victim rescues and removal from the water, backboarding, introduction into CPR & first aid, and more. Per Red Cross requirements, goggles may be worn for the 300 yard swim only.

​​​​​​AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARD

Age 15+

COURSE QUALIFYING: Swim 300 yards continuously using a combination of breast stroke and front crawl. Swim 20 yards and surface dive 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10 pound brick and swim back within 1 minute 40 seconds. Tread water for 2 minutes without hands. Goggles may be worn for the 300 yard swim only. Be prepared to show proof of age (driver's license or birth certificate).

You will acquire certification in lifeguarding for pools and water parks, CPR/AED for infants, children and adults, first aid, and blood borne pathogens. Certification valid for 2 years. Lifeguard manual is provided. Bring a swimsuit, towel,dinner, water bottle and notebook to each class. One piece swimsuit required for females. Successful completion of this course includes passing written tests with a score of 80% or better and a physical skills test.

WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR

Age 16+

Upon completions attendees will be able to teach all the skills for American Red Cross swimming levels, organize lesson plans in a progressive manner, complete student skill sheets, and provide corrective and positive student feedback. Females must wear a one-piece swimsuit. Attendance is required at all class sessions. On the first day be prepared to provide a driver's license of birth certificate proving you are at least 16 years of age by the last day of class, and demonstrate swimming skills equivalent to theAmerican Red Cross Level 4 requirements. Complete online pre-course work for the Water Safety Instructor course.

There is no open swimming at this time.

$5 per person

Children 12 months and under are free with paying adult.

Non-swimmers must be attended by a paying adult.

General Pool Policies

There are no make-ups sessions for those who are unable to attend any regularly-scheduled classes. If a lesson is canceled due to pool closure or severe weather, we attempt to provide make-up lessons whenever possible.
Swimwear/Locker Room Policy

Swimwear consisting of spandex, polyester and /or Lycra fabric is required while in the pool. Jeans, cotton clothing, and anything not designed for water sports are not permitted.

Children over the age of 5 are not allowed in opposite gender locker rooms. Speak with the pool coordinator if this poses a problem for your family.Women escorting boys under the age of five enter through the women's locker room.Men escorting girls under the age of five enter through the men's locker room.

We attempt to keep the pools at or near 84°.If the pool temperature drops below 80°, participants will be sent home.

Nicollet Middle School

Parents and visitors are welcome to observe lessons on the first and last day of the class. All other lessons, guardians may sit with their swimmers until class begins and return to the deck the last 5 minutes of class for pick up.

Pool depth ranges from 3 to 5 feet. No diving permitted.

Pool Contamination

The pool will be closed for treatment when fecal matter is observed or suspected in the pool. Children under 3 years old or participants experiencing habitual accidents are required to wear a waterproof swim diaper covered by a swimsuit, as required by the Dept of Health. Failure to comply with this will result in prohibition from using the pool.
