Happy 100th Day of School! Are you ready to celebrate? By this point in the year, students have (hopefully) found their groove, learned all the routines/procedures and really have the hang of things. But… along with routine can come the mid-year slump.
You know what I’m talking about! The dead point in the school year where you’re past Christmas break, but still too far away from Spring break. This is the perfect time to find a reason to celebrate, engage your students and teach outside of the box. There are so many fun ways to celebrate the 100th day of school with your students.
Hershey’s Kisses Hundred Chart
This is such a FUN math activity for students for the 100th day of school! Display a hundred chart on the white board. Hide Hershey’s kisses around the room with numbers on the bottom (I used neon stickers with numbers 1-100 on them). Students will search for a kiss then come up and fill in the blank hundreds grid.This did take first graders over an hour to fill in the entire grid from scratch, so be aware of that. But, while this was a painfully slow activity, students still had a blast and were so engaged. Here’s a video of my students completing this activity.
If you can’t use candy/food (totally understand, I use it sparingly), you can really use ANYTHING to write a number on and hide around the classroom (like those Target Dollar Spot Erasers I know you have in your closet ;)).
*Need to add something more challenging? Write math problems on the hidden items that result in a number on the 100s chart. For example, 43-10, they would write it in the 33 box on the 100 chart.
100 Acts of Kindness
Another class favorite EVERY year with my little people is the 100 Acts of Kindness. About a week before the 100th day of school, I challenge the students to do 100 acts of kindness. These can be the simplest of things, like helping a friend up a recess, picking up trash, or inviting a new friend to play. My first graders always have the best time and our behavior that week is ALWAYS on point. You can make a simple chart to collect all the acts that students do or you can be a little more elaborate in collecting with this 100 Acts of Kindness pack (which can be used year round too).
Color By Sound-100th Day
A calmer activity here, COLORING! The best part is, the students are still learning even if they are coloring with this Color by Sound activity! Students color the picture by the sound code at the top. Some require some phonemic awareness skills while others require word-reading skills!
Human Number Line

Here’s How to Play:
- Print off all the game pieces that you need.
- Use painters tape, or masking tape to create a long number line on the carpet. Tape down the number signs 1-10.
- The student who is taking a turn will read the math equation card aloud.
- Then, starting a zero, the student will jump back and forth, on the number line.
- Once the student has solved the equation they must answer out loud.
- If they answer correctly, they can be the card holder for the next student in line.
- Keep the game going, until everyone has had a chance to play.

100 Chart Puzzle
Another math 100th day of school activity is the 100 Chart Puzzles! With these leveled puzzles, students will practice building the 100 chart. You can have the students make their own versions too by simply printing a 100 chart for each student and allowing them to cut it up into pieces (make sure you have baggies ready and have them put their names on the back of each piece). Then they can exchange puzzles with friends to complete! These can be placed in centers all year long too (120 Chart Puzzles are available as well).
100th Day Crowns
What little learner doesn’t love to wear a crown?! Trust me, they ALL do. This crown from One Sharp Bunch is such a fun idea. Plus, this is such an easy craft for little hands to assemble.Measure around your students’ heads, and then students will cut out and glue their new crown together. And viola, your students are 100 days ready.
A 100 Year-Old Drawing
Along with dressing up as a 100 year old and/or using an app to change your face to look 100 years old (like Aging Booth on apple and google play)…add a directed drawing to your day!
